Coming soon to a game store near you—a Godzilla-themed version of the classic board game Monopoly! If you’re one of those special people in the middle of a Venn diagram for kaiju fans and Monopoly players, this is the game for you.
MONOPOLY: Godzilla is published by USAopoly (AKA The Op) in partnership with Toho International. Game publisher The Op has the market cornered on themed-versions of Monopoly like “Beetlejuice,” “The Walking Dead,” and even “Rugrats.”
The Op also publishes a number of themed classic board game titles including Clue, Trivial Pursuit, Yahtzee, Jenga, Scrabble, Risk, and even Operation with “Rick and Morty Anatomy Park” and “Nightmare Before Christmas” special editions.
ONE KAIJU TO RULE THE BOARD
In MONOPOLY: Godzilla, players move their kaiju around the board to collect locations (properties) such as Monster Island (Boardwalk) and Infant Island (Park Place). Other locations include Goro’s Workshop and Kitakami Lake. Once your kaiju has taken over a location, you can build it up with Facilities (houses) and Bases (hotels).
The kaiju game tokens are Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Minilla, Mechagodzilla, and Rodan.
“Since the 1950’s, Godzilla has spawned a worldwide fan base,” says John M. Davis, The Op’s President and CEO. “Today, with our games, older fans can nostalgically relive childhood memories while introducing their families and younger generations to the world’s most revered monster.”
“Seeing what The Op has done to bring the world of Godzilla into these classic games has been such an enjoyable experience” says Chris Mowry, Associate Brand Manager for Toho International, Inc. “The way they adapt the brand into these games to make them original and fresh is sure to please fans of all ages.”
