Adventure Time Special Gets Teaser Trailer

We got our first teaser trailer for Adventure Time: Distant Lands. “BMO” is the first hour-long special for the four-part series coming to the HBO Max streaming service this summer. We didn’t learn much from the teaser but hearing BMO sing again is everything.

Adventure Time ended its run on Cartoon Network with the finale “Come Along with Me” on Sept. 3, 2018. Many fans of the show were understandably sad to see the groundbreaking animated series come to an end. Someone at HBO was paying attention and decided to bring the series back (at least for four specials).

“BMO” won’t be available when HBO Max launches later this month on May 27. The first Adventure Time: Distant Lands special will drop sometime this summer. The second special “Obsidian” will arrive later in 2020. The third and fourth hour-long specials (“Wizard City” and “Together Again”) will drop in 2021.

WHAT WE KNOW

There hasn’t been much revealed about the series at this point, but we should learn more when the full “BMO” trailer arrives in coming weeks or months. Here’s what we do know about the plots of each special:

BMO: “When there’s a deadly space emergency in the farthest reaches of the galaxy, there’s only one hero to call, and it’s probably not BMO. Except that this time it is!”

Obsidian: “Marceline and Princess Bubblegum journey to the imposing, beautiful Glass Kingdom — and deep into their tumultuous past — to prevent an earthshaking catastrophe.”

Wizard City: “Peppermint Butler starts over at the beginning, as just another inexperienced Wizard School student. When mysterious events at the campus cast suspicion on Pep and his checkered past, can he master the mystic arts in time to prove his innocence?”

Together Again: “Finn and Jake reunite to rediscover their brotherly bond and embark on the most important adventure of their lives.”

TOGETHER AGAIN

Adventure Time: Distant Lands is being produced by Cartoon Network Studios and Frederator Studios. Adam Muto, the long-running Adventure Time Executive Producer, returns as showrunner for the four specials.

We still think paying $15 a month for HBO Max is ba-nay-nay, but if they keep adding bloobalooby content like this, we may change our minds.
