X-Men Landing on Disney+ for Summer Movie Nights

The X-Men movies are coming to Disney+ this summer! The Disney streaming service will run a Summer Movie Nights promotion from July 3 through September 4. X-Men films will make up most of the Friday night movie parties along with films from the MCU, Pixar, Star Wars, and other blockbusters.

Earlier in June, Disney+ added the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot to its programming. Disney will steadily bring the X-Men franchise to its streaming service along with the Fantastic Four movie from 2005. Now Chris Evans will be two Marvel heroes under the Disney brand.

Those uncanny mutants have existed outside the Disney continuum even though Disney acquired Marvel back in 2009. The X-Men was one of those Marvel properties with previous contracts at other studios. In this case, 20th Century Fox owned the movie rights to both X-Men and the Fantastic Four, which Marvel sold in the 1990s to avoid bankruptcy.

The Fantastic Four have amazing powers, but sadly not the power to score more than 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.

SUMMER MOVIE NIGHTS

Now that Disney finished its acquisition of Fox, the House of Mouse can bring those classic Marvel properties back to the fold. And they’re doing it in a unique way. Instead of dropping the X-Men films all at once, Disney is showcasing them throughout its Summer Movie Nights series.

The TV version of the Broadway megahit Hamilton and The Mighty Ducks will kick off Summer Movie Nights on July 3. On the following Friday, X-Men: Days of Futures Past and Solo: A Star Wars Story will be the double-feature.

The final film in the Summer Movie Nights series is The Wolverine. That seems like a good way to wrap up the series, even though Deadpool’s depiction in The Wolverine is less than stellar, but we all know that’s not the fault of Ryan Reynolds.
