A sequel to the popular anime InuYasha is in the works. The news was announced in Weekly Shonen Sunday, one of the premiere manga publications in Japan. InuYasha’s creator Rumiko Takashi is serving as Supervisor for the production.
There’s not a lot of details yet, but what we learned is the InuYasha sequel will focus on the daughters of yōkai (demons) Inuyasha and Sesshomaru. Set some time in the future from the events of the manga/anime, the daughters open a “legendary door.”
The title at this point is “Hanyo no Yashahime,” and concept art and a poster created by Rumiko Takashi was posted on Twitter.

In addition to the two daughters in the poster for the InuYasha sequel, there is a young man in modern-ish clothes. He may be a time-traveler like Kagome. Or perhaps the series is set far enough in the future because as demons, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru would have very long lives. InuYasha was pinned to a tree for 50 years after all.
The concept art includes various sketches for the two daughters and the young man.
THE ADVENTURES OF INUYASHA AND KAGOME
For the uninitiated, the manga for InuYasha started to be published in 1996. The InuYasha manga had 45 million copies published. The anime was first broadcast in October 2000 and ended after 167 episodes in September 2004.
The story follows Kagome Higurashi, a 15-year-old girl from modern Tokyo, who lives with her family at a shrine. She is magically transported back to a brutal period in Japan’s history, where she meets InuYasha, who is part human and part dog-demon.
Kagome travels between Japan’s past and future for regular adventures with InuYasha as they seek to recover shards of the Shikon Jewel, which Kogome accidently shattered. They are joined on their quest by monk Miroku, demon slayer Sango, fox demon Shippo, and Sango’s companion Kirara, a mythological cat.
As this story develops on the InuYasha sequel, we’ll follow up with more details.
