Kingdom Hearts Series Coming to Disney Plus, Details Leaked

The Kingdom Hearts video game series has an extremely loyal fan base with millions of players, so it’s not surprising the House of Mouse is reportedly developing a Kingdom Hearts series for their Disney+ streaming service.

Editor-in-Chief of The DisInsider Skyler Shuler, confirmed via Twitter that a Kingdom Hearts series is coming to Disney+ as an animated program. He also confirmed that Jim Cummings (Pete, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger), Bill Farmer (Goofy), and Tony Anselmo (Donald Duck) would return as voice actors to reprise their roles from the Kingdom Hearts series.

That still leaves a lot of other important voice actors on the maybe list. It just wouldn’t be Kingdom Hearts without Haley Joel Osment as Sora and David Gallagher as Riku. Kairi’s voice has already been performed by different actors, primarily Hayden Panettiere and Alyson Stoner.

Thankfully, Disney is not going the live-action route. That would be a disaster. While Disney would do a much better job of transforming the Kingdom Hearts franchise to live-action than M. Night Shyamalan’s disastrous live-action film adaption of the beloved series The Last Airbender, there’s no way they could capture the likeness of Sora, Donald, and Goofy, and the legion of other characters in a way that made sense.

One thing Disney will likely fix are the confusing plot threads in the Kingdom Hearts. While the puzzling plotlines are endearing to many fans, it would not translate well to a television series.

The details are scant for now, but it will be difficult to keep a lid on the deets when the series enters full production phase.

As long-time fans of the Kingdom Heart series, we are very excited about the news. How about you? Let us know in the comments!
