LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special Coming to Disney+

A LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is coming to Disney+ on November 17. The animated LEGO movie takes place after the events of Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, reuniting Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewbacca, and Rose along with their droid friends to celebrate Life Day.

The LEGO special will air exactly 42 years to the date of the original Star Wars Holiday Special. On November 17, 1978, the lucky few got to watch the notoriously bad Star Wars cult classic, the Star Wars Holiday Special. It was so bad it was never broadcast again or been made available on home video. Yet, the special remained a part of the Star Wars mythos — even achieving some canon status with references in other Star Wars stories (post-Disney acquisition). You can get bootleg copies on eBay, in case anyone is interested.

The original holiday special gave us our first run-in with a certain Mandalorian bounty hunter, who made his film debut in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back two years later. It also gave us Life Day, the spiritual day celebrated by the Wookies. (Life Day is celebrated on November 17, in case you didn’t know).

Let’s hope Rose gets more airtime in the holiday special than she did in Rise of Skywalker.

In the LEGO special, Rey sets off on a spiritual odyssey to better understand the Force. She finds a hidden Jedi temple along with BB-8. Once inside, Rey is transported through time and space to experience momentous adventures from across the Star Wars cinematic universe. She’ll meet both heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker Saga films.

Hopefully Rey’s time-space adventure gets her back in time for the Life Day feast with the rest of the gang.

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is being produced by Atomic Cartoons. The Canadian animation studio, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, have a long history of creating kid-targeted animated shows for Disney, Cartoon Network, Netflix and others. You’ve probably seen their work even if you didn’t know it, such as Courage The Cowardly Dog, Transformers: Rescue Bots, Marvel Super Hero Adventures, and the LEGO Jurassic World animated specials.

LEGO STAR WARS THEMED ADVENT CALENDAR

For those who enjoy the unique pleasure of building a mini-Lego set each day during the holidays, this year’s LEGO Stars Advent Calendar will be themed for the holiday special. The Darth Vader minifig with the red Death Star holiday sweater is a must-have for LEGO Star Wars collectors.
