Fans of the English dub of My Hero Academia, rejoice! Funimation dropped the English dub for MHA’s Season 4, Episode 84 on Sunday, April 12 via their streaming service. While the final episode of Season 4 was broadcast in Japan on April 4, the English dubbing was put on hold due to COVID stay-at-home orders so the show was five episodes behind.
The English dub for My Hero Academia Episode 84 was already underway before production was halted due to all the voice actors and production staff being forced to stay home along with most everyone else in the United States. Thanks to the ingenuity of Funimation’s engineers, dubbing stations were set up in the homes of the voice actors, director, and production staff.
ADR Director Colleen Clinkenbeard explains how they did it in the post below from Funimation’s Twitter account. Also featured in the video is Luci Christian, the English voice of Ochaco Uraraka.

AUDIO QUALITY
The audio quality for the English dub of Episode 84 was perfect. Despite the voice actors working from their homes instead of a professional sound studio, there were no noticeable drop in quality of the voiceovers.
THE TIMETABLE
So My Hero Academia’s English dub is back … sort of. Funimation hedged on saying when the next English dub will be out. On their blog, Funimation wrote “We’re still working hard to see just how much we can get done given the current situation, so please stay tuned! We’ll keep you posted.”
No doubt dubbing episodes remotely is not easy. Heck, dubbing from Japanese into English isn’t easy even in a studio. Now that Funimation has found a way to record the voice actors despite a worldwide pandemic, we expect the next English dub to come soon. It may not be a weekly schedule as it was prior to COVID lockdown, but we appreciate the Funimation team’s hard work in making it happen however long it takes.
