The popular anime My Hero Academia announced on its website that official masks will soon be available to buy. The “fashion masks” look great because the designs are more abstractly based on character uniforms instead of slapping a character’s face on the mask like a cheap knock-off.
Dealing with the COVID pandemic is difficult. Being able to use face masks that are both stylish and show your true otaku colors is awesome.
The mask designs are themed on the hero uniforms, which includes Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Ochaco Uraraka, Shoto Todoroki, and All Might. The designs shown are illustrated mock-ups, so we don’t know exactly how the real thing will look, but this gives us an idea. See below.
WHEN AND HOW MUCH?
The My Hero Academia Fashion Masks will hit the market sometime in August. The website doesn’t give an exact date or in which markets the mask will be available. The My Hero Academia official website is in Japanese and the price given is 1500 Yen (around $14 US), so we’re not sure how soon the fashion masks will be available in North America.
The masks are being manufactured by the Tomy Company, the famed Japanese toy and merchandise company. Tomy has massive global distribution so the masks should find their way to North America.
DON’T MISS THE NEW MHA OVAS
A two-part My Hero Academia special will broadcast on August 15 in the United States. The new OVA is titled “Survive! Do-or-Die Survival Training.”
The MHA special can be watched on Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Funimation. In fact, Funimation is hosting a watch party. You can find out more details about the watch party on Funimation’s blog.
The initial broadcast is subbed. Given the difficulty getting voice actors in the studio due to COVID restrictions, it may be awhile before we get English dubbed vocal tracks.
Here’s the official synopsis of the new anime:
