The Bad Batch clones are suiting up for a new Star Wars animated series to premiere in 2021. Lucasfilm announced the new series today, which will be set in the post-Clone Wars era. Dave Filoni will be the executive producer of Star Wars: The Bad Batch on the Disney+.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch appears to be set right after the end of the Clone Wars based on the Lucasfilm announcement:
“The series follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in The Clone Wars) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch — a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army — each possess a singular exceptional skill, which makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose.”
The series will be broadcast exclusively on the Disney+ streaming service. This isn’t a surprise as Disney is putting all of its content creation efforts into the service. This is especially true of the list of Star Wars series like The Mandalorian, the final season of The Clone Wars, as well as the still untitled Cassian Andor series (2021), the untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series (2022), and the female-led series (no release date) to be created, directed, and run by Leslye Headland, the creator/showrunner for Russian Doll on Netflix.
(KOOL) FILONI & THE GANG
“Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series,” said Agnes Chu, Senior Vice President of Content for Disney+. “While The Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning. We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni’s vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch.”
Joining Filoni as executive producers for Star Wars: The Bad Batch are Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Brad Rau (Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance) and Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance). Carrie Beck (The Mandalorian, Star Wars Rebels) will be co-executive producer and Josh Rimes will be producer (Star Wars Resistance). Rau will pull double duty as supervising director as will Corbett as head writer.
CLONE FORCE 99
The Warp Gate News crew had a feeling we might see Clone Force 99 again since they were featured prominently in the first four episodes of Season 7 of The Clone Wars. Why introduce a group of really interesting and likeable characters and then never use them again? We’re thrilled about the new series. The Clone Wars has been a consistently good series, so we expect more of the same with Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
