Sword Art Online Alicization War of the Underworld Returns in July

The final season of Sword Art Online Alicization War of the Underworld will start airing new episodes on July 11. The final season was scheduled to premiere on April 25, but was delayed due to the ongoing COVID pandemic.

This is the last chapter of Sword Art Online Alicization War of the Underworld. For those counting, we are 36 episodes into the Alicization arc. The final season of the arc is titled “Part 6: Alicization Awakening.”

The big question lingering through Part 5 was will Kirito ever recover from his fluctlight injuries sustained in the finale of Part 4? We have a glimpse of an answer thanks to a new trailer dropped by Aniplex on July 4.

TRAILER

In the new trailer, we see the whole gang is joining Asuna/Stacia in the Underworld. The two-minute trailer moves very quick giving us only brief glimpses of the continuing story. There is a scene at the end, however, showing Asuna, Alice, Suguha, and Sinon surrounding Kirito with some powerful emotional juju going on between them.

The scene fades to black and we hear a male voice say, “Now, Kirito.” The voice sounds a lot like Eugeo. Back in Part 3, Eugeo was transformed into a sentient sword and was ultimately bisected by Quinella, and transformed back into the two halves of Eugeo before passing on.

Does this mean Eugeo will be back along with Kirito? We’ll probably have to wait for a most of the season to drop before we learn those answers.

THEME SONG

J-Pop star ReoNa is back with a new theme song “ANIMA.” ReoNa provided the second ending theme song for last season. She also sings the theme song “Scar/let” for the upcoming video game Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris.

Fun fact: ReoNa made her singing debut in Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online. She provided the singing voice of fictional popstar Elsa Kanzaki.
