Captain’s Log 2k20.3.5

WG-8 RING STATUS
  • The hyperspace ring platform is back online after being shutdown for more than a week due to an intelligent virus invasion of the station.
  • We received notice via Galactic Messaging Service that the USCMM Kate Rice will enter the Kepler System between 1300-1400 hours tomorrow to bring colonial supplies and then load ore at the collection station in Asteroid Field Alpha.
  • The WG-8 crew is excited to get back to work on our side project, Warp Gate News, after fighting the Epideme virus for the past week.
SYSTEM CONDITIONS
  • Kepler 452b: The planet is entering its mild season so storms will be few and minor for the next few months.
  • Kepler 452: Small solar disturbances, but nothing that would affect systems on the station, colonies, or mining crews.
  • Mining: The Kepler 1 Space Mining Team located a large ore deposit in Asteroid Field Alpha and is excavating around the clock. The Kepler 2 team finished their survey of asteroid field Delta last week after nearly three months.
MISCELLANEOUS
  • As mentioned above, we’ve been dealing with an invasion of the Epideme virus (Variant 2.3) for the past week. It entered our station via Colonial Transport Captain Jorry DeVantis and it jumped to Ensign Elizabeth Carver, who promptly crawled into the ductwork and disappeared. We shut down the hyperspace ring while searching for Ensign Carver and performed daily checks on crew for Epideme infestation.
    .
Since we needed a host for the intelligent virus to jump to, Lt. Alexa Raymond had a good idea and created a proto-lifeform (just a bunch of gelatinous substance and a few organs) in the biological replicator. Once we lured Ensign Carver out of hiding with a pile of sugar cubes and old issues of People magazine, we were able to coax the virus to the proto-lifeform and launch it into Kepler 452. We also shot Captain DeVantis into the star since he died soon after passing the virus to the next host.
    .
Ensign Carver will need a few days of rest, but should be back on light duty soon.
  • We continue to receive reports of thefts of materials and goods that have spread to multiple colonies planet-side. Kepler Colonial Police Commissioner Britt Hodge established an investigative taskforce once ruling out that the losses were not inventory tracking mistakes. There has been no progress as of yet, however, in identifying what must be a black-market ring.
