Star-Lord and Groot are joining the cast of characters in Thor: Love and Thunder, according to reports coming out of Hollywood. Although director Taika Waititi is keeping a tight lid on details of the next Thor movie, it was confirmed that Chris Pratt (Star-Lord) will be part of the cast. Vin Diesel (Groot) teased in June that he would play a part in the movie.
Diesel is now in Australia where the fourth Thor movie is currently being filmed. Pratt is currently wrapping up photography for his upcoming movie The Tomorrow War, which is scheduled to release on July 23, 2021. Then he’ll jet over to Australia to do his shots for Thor: Love and Thunder, which Disney has slated for a Feb. 11, 2022 release.
It’s unclear if Star-Lord and Groot will have major roles or walk-on parts at this point. It’s not necessarily a surprise that two Guardians of the Galaxy characters will be included in Love and Thunder since Diesel teased earlier this year that he will acting in some capacity in the movie, as mentioned above. Additionally, this team-up was teased at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Thor was onboard Star-Lord’s ship the Milano, where they argued about who would be in charge.
LOVE AND THUNDER
Thor: Love and Thunder is planned as a prequel to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The fourth Thor film will be the twenty-eighth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson return to the Thor franchise, along with Christian Bale who will play the yet unnamed villain.
The film is written and directed by Waititi, who also pulls double-duty as Korg. You may remember Korg as the affable Kronan gladiator who first appeared in the MCU in Thor: Ragnarok and then in Avengers: Endgame.
