Baby Yoda Sells Out Instantly at Build-A-Bear Workshop

Well, that was quick. The Child (AKA Baby Yoda) arrived at Build-A-Bear Workshop today. If you’re reading this article and didn’t order one yet, don’t bother. The Child went live on the Build-A-Bear Workshop website, and then sold out in record time, according the company.

It’s no surprise there is a lot of pent-up demand for The Child from the hit Star Wars TV show The Mandalorian on the Disney+ streaming service. And Build-A-Bear’s version of The Child raises the bar for Baby Yoda stuffies. It comes with two different sets of sounds. Pressing his right hand claw paw(?) will play the theme song from The Mandalorian. Pressing his left paw will produce five various sounds that he makes in the series including coos and laughter.

My Force powers include making The Mandalorian theme song play when you squeeze my paw.

Unlike most Build-A-Bear plushes, The Child comes already stuffed and dressed in his adorable little brown robes. And he can only be bought online. Typically, a customer can choose for their stuffy to come stuffed and dressed — or not, so they can take it to a store for the ritual stuffing. These changes are likely due to the fact that Build-A-Bear stores are closed due to coronavirus pandemic.

PRICE AND DETAILS

The price for Build-A-Bear’s The Child is $59.75 (US), which includes the plush, his robes, the sounds, a cardboard carrying case, and a birth certificate. Unlike the Doctor Who plush that Build-A-Bear offered in February, The Child didn’t have an option to personalize the birth certificate. Also, The Child was limited to one per customer.

Customers that managed to get their orders in at the drop of the virtual rope are still waiting to get the order confirmations. Build-A-Bear Workshop followed up with emails this afternoon explaining that their order processing system was overwhelmed by the volume of orders in the short period of time.

They say customers will get their confirmation later today. However, just because a customer’s order went through, doesn’t mean they’ll make the cut. Those orders will be refunded. (I’d hate to be one of those parents who have to tell their kid that, “no, you won’t be getting Baby Yoda after all.”)

THE CHILD WILL BE BACK

All is not lost. If you didn’t get your very own Baby Yoda plush this round, Build-A-Bear Workshop will be making more. You can sign up to receive an email notification when The Child is available again for order.

This is way, I suppose.
