Watchmen Season 2 Fate Unclear

One season may be all we’re going to get of the HBO series Watchmen. Creator Damon Lindelof isn’t returning as show runner, and HBO confirmed to USA Today they won’t continue without Lindelof at the helm. However, the next day, HBO’s head of programming Casey Bloys said negotiations are still proceeding.

I think we’d all like to find out if Angela Abar can walk on water, as well as the identity of Lube Man and other mysteries.

Watchmen was one of the strongest and most interesting shows in 2019. It would be a shame if the show ends, but it would be good for HBO to maintain a commitment to high-quality programming. It would be better to end a phenomenal show than put out another season under a completely different showrunner.

Consider what Starz did with American Gods after Bryan Fuller and Michael Green departed the series after one season. Even though American Gods still has its fans, the show dropped from a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score in Season 1, down to 60% in Season 2. Now they’ve replaced Season 2 showrunner Jesse Alexander with yet another producer for Season 3.

We’d rather have one amazing season of Watchmen than a potential hot mess with additional seasons. If HBO greenlights Season 2, we’ll watch it. Here’s hoping it’s as good as Season 1.
