A Lifetime Movie will premiere December 13 featuring Mario Lopez as THE Colonel Sanders. I kid you not. In what is likely to become a cult classic, this romantic-drama made-for-TV mini-movie is made possible by a partnership between Lifetime and KFC. This may be the greatest product placement in TV history.
A Recipe for Seduction will not be a full-length Lifetime movie. The network is calling it a “mini-movie.” However, from the trailer posted by Lifetime, this short feature has all the sappy hallmarks of a Lifetime movie. There’s drama and romance and a secret recipe!
The Saved by the Bell alum Lopez looks equally sexy and ridiculous with his gray hair, mustache-soul patch combo, and the Colonel’s signature old-timey eyeglasses. Yet Lopez delivers a performance worthy of the best dramas on Lifetime. It may not be Not Without My Daughter-level awesomeness, but it looks damn close.
The description provided by Lifetime sums up the delightful weirdness of the plot:
As the holidays draw near, a young heiress contends with the affections of a suitor handpicked by her mother. When the handsome chef, Harland Sanders, arrives with his secret fried chicken recipe and a dream, he sets in motion a series of events that unravels the mother’s devious plans. Will our plucky heiress escape to her wintry happily ever after with Harland at her side, or will she cave to the demands of family and duty?
“Lifetime is the perfect holiday home to bring this spicy, unexpected tale to life,” said David DeSocio, EVP of Ad Sales Marketing and Partnerships for A+E Networks, parent company for Lifetime. “Through a terrific cast, and with a wink to the unique sensibilities celebrated in Lifetime movies, this co-production spotlights each brand’s POV and marries them in a fun and authentic way. A+E Networks delivers custom creative that our audiences and clients love.”
FRIED CHICKEN TIE-IN (OF COURSE THERE IS)
KFC will offer a special deal partnering with Uber Eats, which will run concurrently with the premiere of A Recipe for Seduction. The Uber Eats special promotion offers six free extra crispy tenders with an order of $20 or more for delivery. The deal is good from Dec. 13-19 via UberEats.com or the mobile app.
Andrea Zahumensky, KFC’s U.S. Chief Marketing Officer, explained the surreal partnership with Lifetime: “We’re no stranger to heating things up for the holidays, just like our famous fried chicken scented Firelog. But let’s face it, we could all use a little distraction this holiday season, so why not fill some of your time at home with a suspenseful drama and the comfort of our world-famous fried chicken?” A Recipe for Seduction is a perfect excuse to curl up at home and escape to your own happily ever after.”
CAN’T GET ENOUGH MARIO LOPEZ ON LIFETIME?
Lopez also stars in Lifetime’s FelizNaviDAD, part of the channel’s “It’s A Wonderful Lifetime’s” holiday movie line-up for 2020. FelizNaviDAD will be shown directly after the KFC-Lifetime product/drama mini-movie A Recipe for Seduction … because, of course.
I’m really looking forward to watching this KFC-Lifetime movie. Weird, right? I guess I’ll order some KFC for my viewing party as the icing on this Kentucky-fried cake.
