This is the Droid You’re Looking for: R2-D2 Roams Galaxy’s Edge

If Galaxy’s Edge at the Disney parks wasn’t already the coolest place on Earth, the Imagineers have added a free-roaming R2-D2. Disney is giving R2 a test drive in Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland. R2’s addition comes about a week before Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opens on Jan. 17.

As reported in the Orange County Register, Disney is running “play tests” with R2-D2 to explore new ways for guests to interact with the parks. It’s not guaranteed that R2 will remain a permanent fixture in Disneyland or any other parks, but here’s hoping.

If you’re going to GE at Disneyland soon, you can find R2-D2 near the entrance to the Millennium Falcon ride, and in other parts of park as some people have posted on social media.

If you’re in the mood for the full droid experience, stop by the Droid Depot at Black Spire Outpost. If you want to build a droid, you’ll want to make reservations to avoid standing in a long line. The droid building experience is $99.99 (plus tax), which includes a droid and a box to carry your new best friend in. While there are different colored parts you can use for building your droid, there are just two form factors to choose from: R-Series (like R2-D2) or BB-Series (as in, well, BB-8.)

Or if you’ve got way too much money, there’s the custom droid build for $25,000. Unlike the smaller $100 droids, these bad boys are full-sized R2 units. Oh, and there’s the 90-day wait for delivery, which is not included in the $25k cost. You would think Disney could speed up delivery—and maybe throw it in for free—considering the staggering cost, but I guess if one can afford to spend that much on a droid, then shipping costs are just pocket money.
