Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra became a fan-favorite character as soon as she appeared in Star Wars: Darth Vader #3. The morally bankrupt, yet ever so interesting archaeologist employed by Darth Vader will soon get her own audiobook.
The latest story of the continuing adventures of Doctor Aphra is titled Doctor Aphra: An Audiobook Original. Not exactly the zippiest title, but don’t let the cover fool you. Any story about Doctor Aphra is bound to be filled with one chaotic caper after another.
There are few details about the upcoming audiobook. The only thing we know at this point is from the announcement by StarWars.com. The story will be an expansion of Aphra’s journey while in the employ of the Dark Lord.
The story is being written by Sarah Kuhn, author of the Heroine Complex book series, featuring Asian American superheroines. This is Kuhn’s Star Wars first book, but she appears to be exactly the right fit as Aphra is a heroine in her right (more like super villain, really). And, as confirmed by Darth Vader comic book writer Kieron Gillen, Doctor Aphra is at least partly Asian (or whatever passes for Asian in a galaxy far, far away.)
The audiobook will be narrated by a full cast. We’ll have to wait and see who is in the cast as those details were not announced at the time of this article.
Doctor Aphra: An Audiobook Original will drop on July 21 on audiobook services like Audible.com. You can preorder now via Amazon. The audiobook is being published by Random House Audio.
Here is author Sarah Kuhn talking about the upcoming book and why she likes Chelli Lona Aphra as a character.
