Top 10 Geeky Zoom Backgrounds

Zoom quickly replaced face-to-face meetings. Not just business meetings, but Girl Scout meetings, family meetings, college classes, and the list goes on and on. Unless you have a gorgeous mansion to show off on Zoom calls, why not spruce up your teleconference with some awesome geeky Zoom backgrounds?

Below is our Top 10 list for the best geeky Zoom backgrounds (in no particular order). There are more fun Zoom backgrounds on the web, but these are the backgrounds our crew liked best which came from official sources. Enjoy!

Here is a Star Wars Zoom background

From a galaxy far, far away comes some of the best geeky Zoom backgrounds. The Star Wars team didn’t just give us a few images. They posted more than 20 images online for use on Zoom calls. The photos look great and feature iconic scenes from across the Skywalker saga. We’d love some backgrounds from the Clone Wars series, in case the Lucasfilm peeps are looking for something to do.

Star Trek

Check out this Zoom background from Star Trek Picard

For this list we’re only listing Zoom backgrounds from official sources. We’ve seen some great Zoom backgrounds online featuring the bridge of the Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), the holodeck, and other classic Trek scenes. However, CBS only provided Zoom backgrounds for Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Discovery. Don’t get us wrong, we loved Discovery and Picard, but there are so many iconic scenes from all the Star Trek series and movies. Couldn’t they give us a couple from each series at least? Please?

Marvel posted Zoom backgrounds

Similar to what Disney/Lucasfilm gave us for Star Wars backgrounds, the Zoom backgrounds for Marvel are marvelous and numerous. Want to make your Zoom friends jealous? Just pop up Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum window, an overview of Wakanda, or Avengers Tower.

DC

DC Comics created this Zoom background for Batman's batcave

DC had an interesting take on their Zoom backgrounds. The images are all comic book illustrations from classic DC locations such as the Batcave, Gotham City, The Daily Planet, Hall of Justice, and our favorite: Arkham Asylum. In all, DC posted 20 images in high-resolution for use on Zoom calls. That’s awesome, but we were hoping for a batshit crazy Harley Quinn background.

John Wick

Here's an interesting Zoom background from the John Wick franchise

The crew debated whether John Wick Zoom backgrounds should make the cut, but the franchise seems to exist in an alternate universe, so technically it could be considered sci-fi or fantasy. For example, it seems highly unlikely that NYC could support the livelihood of hundreds of assassins at the same time. Anyway, Lions Gate killed it with these backdrops from the John Wick series. They are to die for.

Fox Animation

Bob's Burgers Zoom background from Fox

The Fox network is the home for prime-time animation. Starting with The Simpsons, which has been on the air for over 30 years. Other popular animated series followed including The Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers. You can live the dream of being a character in those animated series with these geeky Zoom backgrounds from Fox.

Studio Ghibli

Who wouldn't want a Studio Ghibli Zoom background

Hayao Miyazaki is well known for his amazingly detailed paintings for Studio Ghibli films. The studio published 12 of these beautiful backgrounds from their films. Why not use Sophie’s hat shop for your next Zoom meeting? Or make a big splash with the Forest Spirit. Hopefully, your coworkers are Ghibli fans or it might get weird with a Shishigami looming overhead.

Pixar

Here's a really cool Zoom background from Pixar

Of course Pixar created Zoom backgrounds. How could they not? Pixar films have easily recognizable backgrounds that evoke a range of feelings from Toy Story to Finding Nemo to Inside Out. Want to make your coworkers tear up on your next teleconference, we suggest Ellie and Carl’s living room background from Up.

Pee-wee’s Playhouse

Why not visit Pee-wee's Playhouse on your next Zoom call with this cool background

Pee-wee Herman himself posted images to his website that you can download as your geeky Zoom background. There’s a photo of the Pee-wee Playhouse set and one of Jambi’s box, so you can appear to be a disembodied head of a powerful genie. Just don’t forget to scream into the microphone on your Zoom call when some says the day’s Secret Word.

Legendary Films

Bring Godzilla or King Kong to your next Zoom calls with these backgrounds

Nothing says “Don’t F*** with my PowerPoint presentation” like having giant kaiju in the background on your Zoom call. Legendary Films has your back with powerful images of Godzilla, King Kong, the Dark Knight, or even a black hole from Interstellar.

BONUS ZOOM BACKGROUND

Parks and Recreation

Check out this Parks and Recreation Zoom background

Parks and Recreation is not science-fiction, anime, or fantasy [although Chris Pratt went on to be one of the biggest sci-fi heroes on the silver screen so there’s that], but we would be remiss if we didn’t point out these fun and geeky Zoom backgrounds from the cult-favorite NBC sitcom. Remember Tom Haverford’s wisdom on your next boring Zoom call: “Sometimes you gotta work a little so you can ball a lot.”
