Tron 3 has been in development hell for 10 years. Tron director Steven Lisberger said a sequel was in the works before Tron Legacy hit the theaters in 2010. In 2015, Disney had settled on a script with Garrett Hedlund reprising his role as Sam and Olivia Wilde as Quorra. Also, Joseph Kosinski would return to direct the sequel. However, even though filming was already scheduled, Disney pulled the plug.

Leib said, “The timing wasn’t right to have done it years ago, I think we feel like the timing is right now and we learned a lot of lessons from that last movie.”

JARED LETO

Apparently, now is the time for Jared Leto to be in a Tron film. It’s no surprise that Leto is in talks with Disney to be in the Tron 3. He was in negotiations with Disney back in 2017 for Tron 3, but Disney put the project on hold yet again.

TRON SERIES CANCELLED

Most people don’t know that a Tron series was in early development for the Disney+ streaming service. However, despite the series being written by John Ridley who won an Oscar for 12 Years a Slave, Disney sent the series to the rubbish bin.

TRON LIGHTCYCLE POWER RUN

Disney will be opening a Tron-themed rollercoaster in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in 2021. So it’s tough for Disney to continue to say that there’s not a big enough demand for a new Tron movie after spending an estimated $400 million on a Tron ride.

Tron Lightcycle Power Run first opened in in Shanghai Disneyland in 2016. The ride features a rollercoaster light cycles for each rider. The coaster flies through the Grid in a unique housing that looks both technological and organic.

It looks like the stars bytes are aligning for a new Tron movie. For hardcore Tron fans, it can’t come soon enough.
