Dragon’s Lair Film Starring Ryan Reynolds Coming to Netflix

Dragon’s Lair is coming to Netflix! The streaming giant just announced a live-action film based on the 1980s arcade hit. Ryan Reynolds is in negotiations to both star and produce the feature through his production company Maximum Effort.

It’s been nearly 40 years since Dragon’s Lair first arrived in arcades in 1983. The innovative laserdisc game by Cinematronics featured amazing graphics (for the time) and used a feature film format animated by former Walt Disney animator Don Bluth. The player takes on the third-person persona of Dirk the Daring, a knight on a quest to save the beautiful Princess Daphne from Singe the dragon in the depths of the evil wizard Mordroc’s castle.

According to Variety, Dan and Kevin Hageman (LEGO Ninjago, Trollhunters, and the upcoming animated Star Trek series for Nickelodeon) will write the script for Dragon’s Lair. Also serving as producers are Roy Lee with Vertigo Entertainment and Trevor Engelson with Underground Films.

Similar to his roles as Deadpool and Detective Pikachu, Ryan Reynolds is probably the only actor on the planet that pull off the wacky yet heroic antics of Dirk the Daring.
