The Transformers are coming to Netflix in a new apocalyptic anime Transformers: War for Cybertron. Netflix dropped the final trailer today and the series looks to be the most intense Transformers story to date. The War for Cybertron series is a triology. Each chapter of the triology will have six 22-minute episodes. The first chapter is titled “Seige” and it drops July 30.
Transformers: War for Cybertron begins at the end. The end of Cybertron, that is. The civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons has ravaged their home planet. Now in the final hours of Cybertron, both Megatron and Optimus Prime are trying to save the world, but the two sides have very different ideas of how to accomplish this daunting task.
Megatron plans to use the Allspark to reformat the Autobots. This forces the Autobots to engage in a series of seemingly hopeless counterstrikes against the Decepticons. Their bittersweet goal is to kill Cybertron as the only way to save it.
Netflix and Hasbro partnered with Rooster Teeth to create the Transformers anime. Rooster Teeth produced the series with Polygon Pictures handling the animation.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Rooster Teeth, Netflix, and Hasbro,” said Shuzo John Shiota, President and CEO of Polygon Pictures. “The Transformers universe has so many rich characters and engaging stories. Getting the opportunity to be part of the team bringing the robots in disguise to life in this new trilogy is unbelievable.”
VOICES OF CYBERTRON
Transformers: War for Cybertron will bring on new talent to voice the iconic characters. It will take some getting used to not hearing Frank Welker’s voice coming out of Optimus Prime’s head. However, Jake Foushee has already voiced the Autobot leader for three seasons in Transformers: Cyberverse on Cartoon Network.
The rest of the voice cast includes Jason Marnocha as Megatron, Joe Zieja (Bumblebee), Frank Todaro (Starscream), Linsay Rousseau (Elita-1), Todd Haberkorn (Shockwave, Red Alert), Rafael Goldstein (Ratchet), Keith Silverstein (Jetfire), Edward Bosco (Ultra Magnus, Soundwave), Bill Rogers (Wheeljack), Sophia Isabella (Arcee), Brook Chalmers (Impactor), Shawn Hawkins (Mirage), Kaiser Johnson (Ironhide), Miles Luna (Teletraan I, Cliffjumper), and Mark Whitten (Sideswipe, Skywarp).
